Untitled Scherenschnitte or Scissor Snipping by Katie Conger 1979 |
This weeks featured artwork dates back to 1979. Katie (formerly Ellis) sat down with a reporter from the Southwest Times Record to talk about one of her more time consuming and precise mediums, scissor snipping which came from Germany where it is known as "scherenschnitte" . In the article Katie recalls first seeing the art and being so intrigued she went to work researching and teaching herself this age old and intricate art form.

In the picture below we have the piece Katie snipped while being interviewed. This untitled piece reveals a couple quietly sneaking a kiss under a canopy of trees, leaving one to imagine the circumstances. An engagement? A lover going off to war? A first kiss? It is one of a handful of scissor snippings she created before losing mobility in her fingers to arthritis.
